Beschreibungen

This book covers all aspects of trigeminal neuralgia (TGN) which is a common yet very painful condition of face and scalp. Chapters include historical perspective of the condition, clinical presentations, diagnosis, management strategy, drug therapy, different interventional techniques utilized, and non-invasive modalities offered. The book has ample images to explain three main percutaneous procedures carried out for this condition such as radiofrequency thermocoagulation, glycerol rhizolysis and balloon microcompression in detail. It also covers open neurosurgical procedures including microvascular decompression and certain non-conventional and non-invasive methods. This book provides assistance to pain physicians to have a comprehensive knowledge of trigeminal neuralgia. It is also relevant to neurosurgeons, neurologists, anesthesiologists, dental surgeons and resident doctors.
Introduction, history and epidemiology of trigeminal neuralgia (TGN).- Anatomy of trigeminal nerve.- Etiopathogenesis of trigeminal neuralgia.- Clinical presentation and diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia.- Differential diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia.- Therapeutic options for trigeminal neuralgia.- Radiology for trigeminal neuralgia patients.- Pharmacotherapy of trigeminal neuralgia.- Peripheral nerve blocks for trigeminal neuralgia (along with complications and management).- Percutaneous interventional procedures.- Open neurosurgical options for trigeminal neuralgia: trigeminal tractotomy, trigeminal rhizotomy, microvascular decompression (MVD).- Gamma knife treatment for trigeminal neuralgia.- Botulinum toxin and trigeminal neuralgia.- Non-invasive interventions: PainShield, TENS, psychological management.- Trigemino cardiac reflex and trigeminal neuralgia.- Therapeutic outcome and future scopes.
Dr. Girija Prasad Rath is a Professor of Neuroanaesthesiology and Critical Care at Neurosciences Centre of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India. He has received three years exclusive training in Neuroanesthesiology at AIIMS, and is among the first batch of anaesthesiologists in India to hold a super-specialisation degree (DM- Neuroanaesthesiology). He is keenly interested in the education and clinical research activities related to Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical care, and has got more than 200 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals of International repute. Dr. Rath is an editorial board member of Indian Journal of Anaesthesia, and has been working as the Executive Editor for the Journal of Neuroanaesthesiology and Critical Care (JNACC), since its inception. Dr. Rath is a Past Treasurer of Indian Society of Neuroanaesthesiology and Critical Care (ISNACC), and is an active member of International organisations like Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC) and Asian Society for Neuroanesthesia and Critical Care (ASNACC). He is an invited speaker in the scientific meetings of various Anesthesia societies in India and abroad that includes EuroNeuro, World Congress of Anaesthesiologists (WCA), Neuroanaesthesia Symposium (NAS) of Malaysia, and ASNACC Singapore. Dr. Rath is recipient of ICMR International Fellowship and is a Fellow of India College of Anaesthesiologists (FICA). His main areas of interest include Awake craniotomy and Neuroanesthesia practices in children. Dr. Rath was involved in the first successful separation surgery of conjoined craniopagus twins in India and was felicitated for this achievement. He is also involved in the pain practice with special inclination towards the management of Trigeminal Neuralgia
